Community Action



Football Beyond Borders (FBB) is an education charity which uses football as an engagement tool to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Volunteers will assist in classrooms help to run football sessions at the schools that FBB partner with. There are two projects - one in North and one in South London.

Volunteers will support with construction of Football Beyond Borders' new building under the guidance of a site manager. Activities may include lifting and moving objects, ripping out the property, and similar early-stage construction activities.

L'Arche Garden Project

L'Arche London Garden is a therapeutic garden project for adults with learning disabilities. Their focus is to support the development of independence, and the ability to work as a team. They grow fruit, vegetables and ornamental plants. As a volunteer, you will be helping with some much needed focus on the garden. There will also be pizzas and wine afterwards! :)

John Evelyn Garden

John Evelyn Community Garden was developed through local residents on the Pepys estate, working together to grow fresh food. Volunteers will help revive the garden and prepare the ground for a new bog area alongside the pond.

Painting Feathers!

The Fourth Feathers Youth & Community Center offers a wealth of opportunities for young people living in Marylebone and surrounding areas. Help brighten the place up by painting a room and an outside wall in need of TLC. Artistic skills are a plus!

Hands on London

Hands On London is the local affiliate of Hands On Network (HON), which connects Londoners who want to get involved with community groups, charities and NGOs. Volunteers will be working as part of a project to create anew nature play area. The team will be helping to clear encroaching vegetation, de-compressing soil for spring planting and the creation of a log edged pathway. All tools and PPE will be supplied.

west london action for children

Partner with West London Action for Children to transform the home of a vulnerable family. Volunteers will assist with clearing rooms, preparing walls and wood work, and painting. NOTE: the client has request a gender-mixed project team; therefore signups will be separate on Eventbrite.

Nursery Row Park

Nursery Row Park is your chance to restore this Community Orchard to its former glory! Volunteers will help plant a new delivery of trees scheduled for that weekend.

North London Cares

North London Cares is a community network matching young professionals to creative projects to support older neighbours in need of a little extra time, help or company! After tea and cake, volunteers will accompany the community to an hour-long concert of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Vincentian Care Plus

Vincentian Care works in partnership with other organisations and agencies to provide a continuum of care and assistance in a person’s home, so retired adults can experience peace of mind and live to their fullest. Volunteers will be helping decorate and paint homes.

City Harvest

City Harvest collects this nutritious surplus food from all segments of the food industry including restaurants, grocers, manufacturers, wholesalers, hotels and caterers and provides it safely to the hungry. Help this sustainable charity collect funds to feed the hungry by collecting donations at their stall in Ideal Home Show and talking to visitors about the cause.

London Landmarks Half Marathon

The London Landmarks Half Marathon is a brand-new event in London which celebrates the quirky and cultural of the city. The event will feature singers, dancers, and musicians along the race route. Volunteers will be providing side-line support to runners on the day to help create a true community feel at the event!

Vertical Rush

1000 runners will be racing up London’s iconic Tower 42 to raise money and awareness for Shelter, a non-profit organisation that helps people struggling with bad housing or homelessness in the UK through advice, support, and legal services. Volunteers will be helping run the event on the day in a variety of roles including floor marshals, stewards, participant guides, handling baggage, and distributing goody bags.

Children of Adam Soup Kitchen

Children of Adam is an entirely volunteer led soup kitchen by everyone for those less fortunate. We hand out hot meals, fruit, sandwiches (from EAT/Pret), dessrt and tea/coffee to 170 homeless people every Sunday. Volunteers will be involved with setting up the stall, handing out food and packing up afterwards.

The Big Half Marathon

The Big Half Marathon is a brand-new event in London aimed at bringing sports and community together to inspire social change. The event will feature singers, dancers, and musicians along the race route, as well as elite runners including Mo Farah and Callum Hawkins. Volunteers will be providing side-line support to runners on the day to help create a true community feel at the event!

Wave was started by parents who know first-hand the challenges of integrating a child with learning disabilities into their community. To boost awareness, Wave is holding an event staffed by individuals with learning disabilities. Volunteers will work in mix-ability groups to assist the smooth running of the event (e.g. serving food & drinks).

Safer Sleep Week

Safer Sleep Week is The Lullaby Trust’s national awareness campaign targeting anyone looking after a young baby. Greater awareness of safer sleep can lead to a decrease in infant deaths from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Bucket collectors are required at Tottenham Court Road underground station for two 2-hour sessions.

One degree mentoring

One Degree was founded in 2009 and aims to improve the academic performance and self-belief of students from disadvantaged backgrounds in London. Volunteers will assist students with academic and personal development mentoring.

Slough and Eton Church of England Business and Enterprise College is a co-educational secondary academy. Volunteers will conduct mock interview, and provide feedback on CV and cover letters for students aged 15-16 to help them apply for part time jobs.

Harris Academy is the top non-selective school nationally that helps students from less privileged background achieve irrespective of country of birth or social demographic. Volunteers will speed network with students for 4 minutes each as students try to find out as much as they can from each of the volunteers.

mentoring and pitch judging (ACORN ASPIRATIONS)

Acorn Aspirations is a social enterprise that offers young people the opportunity to learn the skills they need to emerge as tech entrepreneurs and leaders. During this session LBS volunteers will judge entrepreneurial pitches and mentor the students on their business ideas.

Enabling Enterprise (Biz Kids)

We will be hosting 30 primary school students from Oaklands Primary School at LBS in conjunction with Enabling Enterprise, a non-profit social enterprise with a mission to equip young people with the skills, experiences and aspirations they need to succeed in life. Volunteers will be running interactive workshops and challenges with students throughout the session to give them a taste of the business and working world.

St. Gregory’s Catholic Science College require assistance in providing their students with mock interview preparation (for potential future employers). Volunteers will be provided with a list of prompt questions to ask the students, and will conduct speed 10-minute interviews. Lunch will be included afterwards!
